National Defence Academy Selection Process, 2020
This academy offers admission via NDA or NA Entrance Exam. Follow the below steps to complete the admission procedure:
1. Entrance Exam:
The candidates have to give NDA & NA Entrance Exam conducted twice a year. The entrance exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The candidates who have cleared the entrance exam have to appear for the SSB interview.
Paper: The NDA exam consists of 2 papers i.e. Mathematics and General Ability. Total Marks: The Mathematics paper contains 300 marks while General Ability test holds 600 marks. The written test will be of total 900 marks.
2. SSB Interview:
Service Selection Board (SSB) interview is a 5-day process. The interview schedule is based on the rank obtained in NDA & NA entrance exam. Mentioned below are the two stages of SSB interview process:
Stage 1: Screening Round
It is conducted on the first day of the interview process. It consists of 2 tests i.e. Officer Intelligence Rating Test (OIRT) & Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT). These tests contain basic questions of general aptitude, reasoning & intelligence.
Stage 2:
This stage consists of a 4 days test, only those candidates who have qualified the stage 1 can appear for this stage.
- Psychological Testing
- Personal Interview
- Ground Tasks Officer (GTO) Testing
- Conference Round
3. Medical Examination
Candidates who have cleared the SSB interview process, have to appear for the Medical Test for about a week. The candidates who have found medically fit will be eligible to sit for the next round.
4. Final Selection
This is the final round of the selection process. Candidates will be selected based on the merit list summed up on the basis of SSB interview & the medical test.
Documents Verification
After the final selection candidates have to appear for the document verification round. The documents required at the Service Selection Center (SSC) are mentioned below:
- Original 10+2 or 12th class passing certificate
- Eligibility certificate for reserved categories of student
- Identity proof (PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhar Card etc.)
- Category or cast certificate for SC, ST, OBC etc. categories
- Passport size photographs
- Proof of residence
Candidates need to carry all the required documents in original as well as photostat copies. Failure to present any of the required document can lead to the disqualification of the candidate.
National Defence Academy Admission 2020
Commonly known as NDA, the academy offers Bachelor’s courses in the streams of Arts, Science & Engineering. NDA offers admission to Air Force, Navy & Army. The National Defence Academy is a sign of global excellence for military education.
- Candidates can seek admission at NDA via NDA & NA Entrance Exam
- The admission for NDA is conducted in two months i.e. January & August
- Candidates have to apply online only for the entrance exam, there is no offline mode available
- Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to sit in the exam
- The minimum age limit to appear for the exam is 16 years
- The maximum age limit for candidates to sit for the exam is 19 years
NDA 2020 Eligibility- Qualification
The academic qualifications varies slightly according to the post that the candidate has applied for. The details of educational qualification for different posts are specified below:
- For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: Pass certificate in 10+2 exams via recognized board or a University.
- For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: Candidate should have passed Class 12th exam in the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
NOTE:
- It must be noted that candidates studying in Class 11 are not eligible for appearing in NDA 2020 exam. Additionally, those candidates who have failed INSB / PABT earlier will not be considered eligible for recruitment in Air Force.
- Those candidates, who are currently studying in Class 12 at the time of application, must submit proof of passing the exam by deadline. Requests for extending the due date would not be entertained on any grounds.
- It must also be noted that the candidates who have been debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of Commission in the Defence Services will be considered ineligible for admission to the exam.
NDA 2020 Physical Eligibility
Height & Weight Standards:
The minimum height measurement is 157 cms (162.5 cms. for Air Force). For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the minimum heights will be 5 cms.
There are certain requirements pertaining to the physical fitness or features that must be fulfilled by the candidate at the time of submitting NDA Application forms. The eligibility would vary slightly according to the post for which candidate is applying.
It must be understood that if a candidate has resigned or withdrawn, from any of the training academies of Armed Forces, on disciplinary grounds, he will not be considered eligible to apply for NDA 2020. The required physical criteria are listed below.
Undesirable health issues
The candidate must not be suffering from any of these minor conditions at the time of medical examination –
- Wax (Ears)
- Deviated Nasal Septum
- Hydrocele / Phimosis
- Condition of Overweight / Underweight
- Under Sized Chest
- Piles
- Tonsillitis
- Gynaecomastia
- Varicocele
Case of Body Tattoos
- The candidate must ensure that any permanent body tattoos are present only on their inner side of forearm. Under no circumstances will UPSC accept tattoos on the inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm / back (dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are also not acceptable.
- In case the candidate happens to belong to a tribe where it is customary to have tattoo marks on the face or body, acceptance will be granted on a case to case basis, considering the traditions involved. The decision of authorities would be final in such instances.
NDA 2020 Age Limit and Marital Status
It should be clearly noted that only unmarried male candidates, who are not born earlier than July 2, 2000 and not later than July 1, 2003 are eligible to appear for NDA II 2019 conducted by UPSC.
Married candidates and female candidates are ineligible to apply for NDA exam. The date of birth mentioned in the application must be the same as that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
Any candidate who has been selected after qualifying the exam has to undertake not to marry for the duration of the training. Failure to observe this condition would cause the debarment of the candidate from NDA. Additionally, any charge incurred on him by the government is required to be refunded
